Definition of «away goals»

Away goals is a term used in soccer (also known as football) to determine the winner of a match when both teams have scored an equal number of goals during the game and also away from their home ground. In such a situation, the team that has scored more goals in the opposing team's stadium is declared as the winner. The away goals rule was introduced to prevent teams from simply defending their home ground and to encourage attacking football.
